Adco Midazolam Injection

Indication

Sedation for medical procedures, induction of anesthesia, and treatment of seizures.

Dosage (summary)

Administered intravenously or intramuscularly; typical adult dose for sedation is 1-2.5 mg, adjusted based on response.

Onset of Action / Duration

Onset of action is typically within 1-5 minutes; duration of action is approximately 1-6 hours depending on the dose and route of administration.

Special Populations

• Elderly patients
• Patients with hepatic impairment
• Patients with respiratory disorders

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Midazolam is excreted in breast milk; caution is advised when administering to nursing mothers.

Key Drug Interactions

• CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, opioids) may enhance sedative effects.
• Certain anticonvulsants (e.g., phenytoin) may reduce the effectiveness of Midazolam.
• Inhibitors of CYP3A4 (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin) may increase Midazolam levels.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Midazolam or any component of the formulation.
• Severe respiratory insufficiency.
• Acute narrow-angle glaucoma.

• Drowsiness
• Respiratory depression
• Hypotension
• Amnesia
• Paradoxical reactions (e.g., agitation, aggression)

Counselling Points

• Advise patients to avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants while on Midazolam.
• Inform patients about the potential for drowsiness and to avoid driving or operating machinery until they know how the medication affects them.
• Discuss the importance of informing healthcare providers about all medications being taken.
