Indication
Control of generalized tonic-clonic and complex partial seizures.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: Start with 125 mg (5 ml) three times daily; adjust as needed. Pediatric: 5 mg/kg/day in 2-3 doses, max 300 mg/day.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 7-10 days for steady state.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Avoid in pregnancy due to teratogenicity; not recommended during breastfeeding.

- Alcohol (acute increases levels, chronic decreases)
- CYP450 inducers/inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to phenytoin
- Porphyria
