Indication

Treatment of tuberculosis (TB) in pediatric patients.

Dosage (summary)

The recommended dosage for children is based on body weight: 10 mg/kg of Rifampicin and 5 mg/kg of Isoniazid, administered once daily.

Onset of Action / Duration

Therapeutic effects may be observed within 2 to 4 weeks of initiation of therapy.

Special Populations

  • Hepatically impaired patients
  • Renally impaired patients
  • Children under 2 years of age

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Rifampicin and Isoniazid are generally considered safe during pregnancy; however, they should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Caution is advised during lactation as both drugs are excreted in breast milk.

Key Drug Interactions

  • May reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
  • Concurrent use with anticoagulants may increase the risk of bleeding.
  • May interact with antiretroviral medications.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Rifampicin or Isoniazid.
  • Active liver disease or severe hepatic impairment.
  • History of drug-induced hepatitis.
