Indication

Topical treatment of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis.

Dosage (summary)

Apply a thin layer to the affected area once daily.

Onset of Action / Duration

Effects may be observed within a few days of treatment.

Special Populations

• Elderly patients
• Pediatric patients
• Patients with hepatic impairment
• Patients with renal impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution is advised during lactation.

Key Drug Interactions

• May enhance the effects of other topical corticosteroids.
• Caution with concurrent use of other immunosuppressive agents.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Methylprednisolone Aceponate or any component of the formulation.
• Viral infections (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox) at the application site.
• Bacterial infections at the application site.

Common side effects

• Local skin reactions (burning, itching, irritation)
• Atrophy of the skin with prolonged use
• Systemic absorption may lead to adrenal suppression with excessive use.

Counselling Points

• Instruct patients to apply only to the affected area and avoid contact with eyes.
• Advise against occlusive dressings unless directed by a healthcare professional.
• Inform patients to report any signs of infection or adverse reactions.
