Indication

Dosage (summary)
2-4 mL (10-20 mg) for adults.

Special Populations
- Elderly
- Pregnant women
- Patients with cardiovascular impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended in early pregnancy; reduce dose in late pregnancy. Minimal risk during breastfeeding.

- Other local anaesthetics
- Antidysrhythmics (e.g., amiodarone)
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to bupivacaine
- Active CNS disease
- Spinal stenosis
- Coagulation disorders
Common side effects
- Hypotension
- Bradycardia
- Nausea
- Postdural puncture headache
Counselling Points
- Ensure resuscitative equipment is available
- Monitor for signs of toxicity
- Avoid in early pregnancy
Serious warnings
- Risk of systemic toxicity
- Monitor for cardiovascular and respiratory depression
