    Indication

    Serious infections caused by susceptible organisms.

    Dosage (summary)

    Mild to moderate: 150 mg every 6 hours; Severe: 300-450 mg every 6 hours.

    Special Populations

    • Renal impairment
    • Gastrointestinal disease history

    Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

    Use in pregnancy only if safer alternatives unavailable; contraindicated in breastfeeding.

    Key Drug Interactions

    • Erythromycin
    • Vitamin K antagonists
    • CYP3A4 inhibitors

    Contraindications

    • Hypersensitivity to clindamycin
    • Infants <30 days
    • Pregnancy and lactation safety not established

    Common side effects

    • Pseudomembranous colitis
    • Abdominal pain
    • Diarrhoea

    Counselling Points

    • Take with meals
    • Discontinue if severe diarrhoea occurs
    • Monitor for allergic reactions
