Indication

Treatment of systemic and local bacterial infections.

Dosage (summary)

Adults: 4.5 g every 8 hours; Neutropenic patients: 4.5 g every 6 hours.

Special Populations

  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Use only if benefits outweigh risks; crosses placenta and excreted in breast milk.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Anticoagulants
  • Methotrexate
  • Nondepolarizing muscle relaxants
  • Probenecid
  • Vancomycin

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to beta-lactams

  • Thrombocytopenia
