Indication
Relief of mild to moderate pain and/or fever.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 1-3 tablets every 4 hours, max 12/day. Children 16+: 1-3 tablets up to 4 times/day, max 10/day.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation due to risk of Reye's syndrome.
Key Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants
- Reduced effect of antihypertensives
- Increased nephrotoxicity with ciclosporin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to aspirin
- History of gastrointestinal bleeding
- Active peptic ulcer
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Severe renal impairment
- Children under 16 years
Common side effects
- Gastrointestinal disturbances
- Bronchospasm
- Skin reactions
Counselling Points
- Take with caution if history of GI disease
- Report unusual abdominal symptoms
- Avoid alcohol to reduce GI risk
Serious warnings
- Risk of gastrointestinal bleeding
- Caution in patients with cardiovascular disease
- Do not use continuously for more than 10 days
