    Indication

    Management of moderate to moderately severe pain.

    Dosage (summary)

    Adults: 50 mg initially, then 50-100 mg every 4-6 hours; max 400 mg/day.

    Special Populations

    • Elderly patients
    • Renal impairment
    • Hepatic impairment

    Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

    Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

    Key Drug Interactions

    • MAO inhibitors
    • Centrally depressant medicines
    • SSRIs and SNRIs

    Contraindications

    • Hypersensitivity to tramadol
    • Acute intoxication with alcohol or opioids
    • Severe respiratory depression
    • Epilepsy

    Common side effects

    • Dizziness
    • Nausea
    • Constipation
    • Fatigue

    Counselling Points

    • Take whole with liquid, not chewed.
    • Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants.
    • Monitor for signs of respiratory depression.
