Indication

Steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye and external auditory meatus.

Dosage (summary)

1-2 drops into conjunctival sac; 4-6 times daily for mild inflammation, hourly for severe.

Special Populations

  • Paediatric patients
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Renal impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Key Drug Interactions

  • CYP3A4 inhibitors
  • Pupil-dilating eye drops

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to dexamethasone
  • Epithelial herpes simplex keratitis
  • Vaccinia
  • Varicella
  • Mycobacterial infection
  • Fungal diseases
  • Mechanical lacerations

Common side effects

  • Ocular discomfort
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry eye
  • Keratitis

Counselling Points

  • Avoid contact lenses during treatment
  • Monitor for visual disturbances
  • Do not discontinue abruptly after long-term use

Serious warnings

  • Prolonged use may cause glaucoma
  • Monitor intraocular pressure
  • May mask infections
