Indication
Prevention and treatment of pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery.
Dosage (summary)
1 drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily, starting 1 day before surgery.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Hepatic impairment
- Renal impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Contraindicated in pregnancy, especially third trimester; unknown if excreted in breast milk.
Key Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding with corticosteroids
- Enhanced effects with anticoagulants
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to nepafenac or NSAIDs
- History of gastrointestinal bleeding
- Heart failure
Common side effects
- Keratitis
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Eye pain
- Blurred vision
Counselling Points
- Do not wear contact lenses during treatment
- Monitor for signs of corneal health
- Discontinue if hypersensitivity occurs
Serious warnings
- Risk of corneal adverse reactions
- May cause delayed healing
- Potential for serious skin reactions
