    Induction and enhancement of labour, prevention and treatment of postpartum haemorrhage.

    Dosage (summary)

    5 IU IV infusion; adjust rate based on uterine response.

    Onset of Action / Duration

    Onset: <1 min (IV), Duration: 30-60 mins (IM)

    Special Populations

    • Renal impairment
    • Hepatic impairment

    Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

    Likely safe in pregnancy; minimal excretion in breast milk.

    • Prostaglandins
    • QT prolonging drugs
    • Other uterotonics

    Contraindications

    • Hypersensitivity to oxytocin
    • Foetal distress
