Indication
Palliative treatment of advanced ovarian and breast cancer.
Dosage (summary)
175 mg/m2 IV over 3 hours every 3 weeks; adjust for neutrophil count.
Special Populations
- Hepatic impairment
- Elderly
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended in pregnancy; unknown if excreted in breast milk.
Key Drug Interactions
- Cisplatin
- Doxorubicin
- CYP2C8 and CYP3A4 inhibitors
Contraindications
- Severe hypersensitivity to paclitaxel
- Baseline neutrophil count <1500 cells/mm3
Common side effects
- Neutropenia
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Hypersensitivity reactions
Counselling Points
- Premedicate with corticosteroids and antihistamines
- Monitor for hypersensitivity
- Avoid pregnancy during treatment
Serious warnings
- Severe hypersensitivity reactions
- Bone marrow suppression
