Indication

Dosage (summary)
Adults: 250 mg twice daily for sinusitis/bronchitis; 125 mg twice daily for cystitis; 500 mg twice daily for Lyme disease.
Special Populations
- Renal impairment
- Children under 3 months
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established; excreted in breast milk.
Key Drug Interactions
- Probenecid increases serum concentration
- Avoid furosemide due to nephrotoxicity
- May decrease efficacy of oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
- Hypersensitivity to penicillin
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Common side effects
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Candida overgrowth
Counselling Points
- Take half an hour after food
- Report severe allergic reactions
- Monitor for signs of Clostridium difficile infection

- Serious hypersensitivity reactions
- Risk of pseudomembranous colitis
- Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction in Lyme disease
