Indication

Dosage (summary)
Start at 600 mg/day, increase by 5-10 mg/kg/week; max 2500 mg/day.
Special Populations
- Renal impairment
- Elderly patients
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
High teratogenic risk; contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
Key Drug Interactions
- Increased sedation with phenobarbital
- Decreased efficacy with carbapenems
- Increased toxicity with zidovudine
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to sodium valproate
- Pregnancy
- Active liver disease

- Nausea
- Drowsiness
- Weight gain
