    Indication

    Complicated skin and skin structure infections and Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections.

    Dosage (summary)

    4 mg/kg IV daily for cSSSI; 6 mg/kg IV daily for bloodstream infections.

    Special Populations

    • Renal impairment
    • Hepatic impairment
    • Elderly
    • Obesity

    Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

    Not established; avoid in pregnancy; caution in breastfeeding.

    Key Drug Interactions

    • Warfarin
    • Tobramycin
    • HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors

    Contraindications

    • Hypersensitivity to daptomycin

    Common side effects

    • Candida infections
    • Anemia
    • Diarrhea
    • Nausea
    • Headache

    Counselling Points

    • Monitor for muscle pain and CPK levels
    • Avoid driving if dizzy
    • Report any allergic reactions

    Serious warnings

    • Not effective for pneumonia
    • Risk of myopathy
    • Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea
