Indication

Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in non-valvular atrial fibrillation, treatment and prevention of DVT and PE.

Dosage (summary)

20 mg once daily for SPAF; 15 mg twice daily for 3 weeks, then 20 mg once daily for DVT/PE.

Special Populations

  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Key Drug Interactions

  • CYP3A4 and P-gp inhibitors
  • Anticoagulants
  • NSAIDs

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to rivaroxaban
  • Active bleeding
  • Severe hepatic disease
  • Concomitant anticoagulants

Common side effects

  • Bleeding
  • Dizziness
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding

Counselling Points

  • Take with food
  • Report any signs of bleeding
  • Do not double dose if missed

Serious warnings

  • Increased bleeding risk
  • Monitor for signs of bleeding
