Dosage (summary)
Adults: 2 g daily in 2 injections; severe infections may require up to 12 g IV.

Onset: 30 mins, Duration: 6-8 hours

- Nephrotoxic medicines
- Diuretics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cefotaxime
- Hypersensitivity to penicillin
Common side effects
- Diarrhoea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Headache
Counselling Points
- Report severe diarrhoea
- Avoid mixing with other antibiotics
- Monitor for allergic reactions
Serious warnings
- Monitor white cell count for >10 days
- Risk of pseudomembranous colitis
